Florian Paetzold – Spririt

Florian Paetzold is one of these talented DJs who can make up sounds and melodies as beautiful as poesy and stories. He already gave us great tracks like the amazing Warm Minds or a truly beautiful remix of Ready For Your Love. There is always a mix of romanticism and melancholia in his melodies. This one might sound really simple and repetitive but Spirit somehow managed to touch me. I liked the discreet vocals broken by a nice chill light poping sound. It’s smooth and laidback, a little bit sexy but never boring. This vintage 90’s piano totally has its place in this track. It adds a funky touch that we don’t dislike. Florian Paetzold plays the game of high and lows, making us waiting for this peak that never really explodes. Or at least not when you expected it and not how you expected it.

Dotan – Waves (Alex Schulz Remix)

Alex Schulz is a remarkable artist. We love his perticular chill house style that he always taint with a touch of romanticism. Listenning to this quiet guitar in the background or this great violins, you always follow him, his melodies. Could Be and The Girl From Paris were some of these kind of songs we noticed and put on repeat several times.

But despite ebing followed by thousands of fans, the German DJ doesn’t seem to have made it to the top yet. At least, we think Alex Schulz didn’t get the acknowledgement he should deserve for his great work. May 2015 be his year. Alex keeps on working hard, proof is this last gem he just dropped for the beggining of the year. Another charming tune, worked and perfected in each details. Also, it’s free so why would you deprive yourself of such a nice sound?

Mozambo & Basic Tape Ft. Julia Church – Bright Side

DAMN! If the aim of this song was about to motivate you, it’s all done! What an amazing colaboration Mozambo and Basic Tape did there! We know that both can bring punchy and funky beats to some original songs and turn them into new hits. No wonder where Bright Side got its vibes from! Disco electric guitar, funky melody and – of course – really nice vocals by Julia Church. This song will attract your friends on the dancefloor like mosquitos on lights.
On the plus side it’s full of positive energy for the new year!

Just Kiddin – Thinking About It (NEVA & David Pietras Remix)

Let’s keep on our Sunday Evening Blues playlist. This one is a freshy one. It’s light and melancholic as a happy full of pop Coldplay song. But it’s cooler.
The work of two people the Swedish David Pietras and the German NEVA. Don’t ask me who did what. We love that powerful piano rythmic. It’s punchy and explodes in the air in a thousands of colourful butterflies. The beats raise you up, you fly but still you’re a bit sad because the song wants you to remember your good old times. In the same time, you think “Fuck off” because you just want to go ahead and play with the butterflies. Yep, we’re two in our brain.

Nitesky – Robot Koch (Axmod Remix)

Lay down and relax with this dreamy sound from Axmod. The 20-year-old French DJ who brought us the magical remix of Too Close of Alex Clare. He’s back with this nice new track. Vocals in echoes, light melody flying in the air and taking you into his universe. The melody is really good, complex but simple, easy and catchy.
We love that sound, it’s lovely!

Gorillaz – Feel Good Inc (The SAME & Lalitia Cover)

This track could have gone directly in the “song-you-should-never-cover” category.
Fortunately, The SAME and Lalitia managed to create a really interesting version of Feel Good Inc. It might be a bit reppetitive in the end though.
The vocals are nice and fit the new rythm. Lalitia gives a new face to the track. The beat, the drum set, the piano, it’s all calm and soft. Perfect for chilling sunday.

A$AP Rocky – Fuckin’ Problems Feat Xavier Dunn (Vijay & Sofia Zlatko, Kasúal Remix)

Gift of the day: a free download!
This is quite an original and nice remix and cover we got there. Vijay & Sofia went from an agressive rap song  with direct lyrics such as “I love bad bitches, that’s my fuckin problem!” to a nice chilling track. That was ambitious.
The cover realised by Xavier Dunn is soft and nice. He sings these lyrics like if he was singing the most romantic or sadest song ever which is pretty funny too!
The drum sets by the DJs couple is there, we can recognise their touch. It’s nice and slow, it fits the cover. In the end we got a nice melancholic melody and it’s surprising when you listen to the original song!

Lana Del Rey – West Coast (James Vincent McMorrow Cover) [Berger & Shaqiri Edit]

I definitely should do a top of the best Lana Del Rey remixes. There must be a new remix of one of her songs coming up every hour in the world. It’s crazy. Good thing is among this uncountable amount of remixes, there are a few good ones and we try to find some original ones.
We find Berger & Shaqiri and… It’s a match!
Two not-so-famous-yet DJ from Cologne, Germany. Their good choice was James Vincent McMorrow. It rings a bell to you? Of course, the singer does cover of a lot of hit songs and DJs do remixes of a lot of his covers! Remember Higher Love remixed by C-Ro or by Matoma and Cavalier remixed by Samuraii. So yeah, James is a good vocal base for a remix.
But what we like here is the rythm of the song. The beggining is classic with James singing the first part of the song on a slow rythm but then it all breaks with an electro drum set and the voice of James remixed with a repeated “like it all could happen” (or something close to that). This truly gives the song another rythm and another structure. It’s not just a faster or slower version of West Coast, there is something more and that’s what makes a good remix!

Joachim Pastor – Fever

The French DJ Joachim Pastor digged up an oldie to totally transform it. He went directly back to 1956 to take the world famous song Fever and brought it back to his studio.
What this DJ did with this song is just incredible. You only recognise the song through the unforgettable lyrics but everything else is brand new. However, it does not mean Joachim disfigured the track. Not at all, the true original soul is still there but adapted to 2014. The bass line, the quite dark guitar, the slow drum set, the whole thing creates a dark atmosphere. It’s a bit worrying and it truly suits the lyrics. It’s more sad or maybe dramatic would be better. It’s like watching a drama. It all seems very desperate and you don’t know where it’s going but it might finish in a terrible ending.
This remix is a genius work, it sounds really professionnal. Every instruments and sound really has a place in this track.

EFIX & Henri Pfr – I’m Goin’ Down (feat. Florence Welch & Kid Harpoon)

Today it’s Halloween. But I decided not to play the scary side but rather the happy feelings one (a bit like Phil on Modern Family last episode).
So here it is, a shiny happy song. EFIX and Henri Pfr did a nice job here. We love the voice in the background, the nice acoustic guitar and the little kind-of-xylophon that reminds you of your childhood and finally the nice chorus. Yep everything in that song is made to make you feel good and comfortable. Relax, it’s holiday!
But beware. Too much happiness? Might be a trap…
